MARIETTA, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-4-2, 0-0-0 NCAC) traveled to face Marietta (2-4-2, 0-0-0 NCAC) on Saturday night. It was an eventful final 10 minutes at the Battling Bishops equalized not once but twice to force a 2-2 tie.
Marietta took an early lead with the game's opening goal in the 11th minute. The Pioneers held their one-goal advantage throughout the first half and well into the second half.
After eight fruitless scoring efforts in the first 45 minutes and six in the first 35 minutes of the second half, the Bishops finally put one past the keeper in the 81st minute.
Brady Catanzarite scored the leveler – the first goal of his career – assisted by
Emilio Herrera and
Callum Wiggins to make it 1-1.
The elation of OWU's equalizer was soon numbed by the Pioneers with another go-ahead goal in the 85th minute to retake a one-goal advantage at 2-1. Not to fret, the Red and Black came back with another equalizer in the 87th minute courtesy of
Soren Dujakovich, bringing the final scoreline to 2-2.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan held the advantage in total attempts at 16-11 as well as shots on goal at 8-6. OWU was awarded seven corners in contrast to five for Marietta. The Bishops made four saves compared to the Pioneers' six.
Brady Catanzarite scored his first career goal.
Soren Dujakovich collected his second goal of the season.
Emilio Herrera and
Callum Wiggins recorded an assist each. Herrera's was his first for the Red and Black.
Zach Hertzberg (0-3-1) made four saves during his 90 minutes in the net.
