DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team (8-5, 1-0 NCAC) hosted Baldwin Wallace (13-3,0-0 OAC) on Tuesday night for their annual Morgan's Message game – bringing awareness to student-athlete mental health. The Battling Bishops swept the Yellow Jackets to earn their seventh straight win.
The Bishops began with a bang in set one, taking the first six points and forcing an immediate timeout from Baldwin Wallace. Ohio Wesleyan carried this energy through the entire set, never surrendering the lead and closing it out 25-16. OWU stayed on top of their game in the second set, once again with a wire-to-wire win. Natalie Dieball sealed the deal for the Red and Black at 25-12 with back-to-back kills.
Set three was the closest of the contest as the two sides traded points in the early going with OWU holding a slight lead until BW knotted it at 21-21. With victory on the line, sophomore
Abby Nulph brought the Bishops back into the lead with back-to-back kills and OWU ended the set 25-22.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan recorded 39 kills compared to Baldwin Wallace with 27. The Bishops had four service aces while the Yellow Jackets had five. OWU and BW were neck-in-neck in digs at 49-47. Ohio Wesleyan managed 37 assists, Baldwin Wallace had 35.
Natalie Dieball led the offense with 10 kills.
Megan Lantis and
Abby Nulph followed behind each with eight.
Avery Krause had the most aces with two.
Jenna Ashbrook and Nulph each had one.
Taylor Tompkins and Nulph tied to lead the team with five blocks apiece.
Jordanne Shannon and
Jaelyn Taylor both recorded four blocks.
Ashbrook was the leading setter with 18 assists. Taylor followed with 16.
Krause collected 18 digs. Dieball tailed nine and Ashbrook had seven.
