Bishops Bounce Back with Big Senior Day Win

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NCAC) earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back to beat Bethany (0-2-0, 0-0-0 PAC) 4-0 on senior day. All three goals scored directly by the Bishops came courtesy of seniors, with the fourth coming via a Bethany own goal.

Prior to kickoff the Battling Bishops honored seniors Andrew Davison, Connor Morgan, Carson Browning, Cade Wurstner, Jack Jennings, Jordan Domoe, James O'Connor, Soren Dujakovich, and Carter Flynn.

O'Connor got the scoring started in the 18th minute – his first career goal – using his head on a corner kick to knock the ball off the crossbar and down over the goal line. Vittorio Renda was responsible for the assist, finding O'Connor from the corner.

The other three OWU goals came in the second half. The first was another corner kick in the 53rd minute that Renda bended towards the back corner, resulting in a failed clearance and an own goal by a Bethany defender. Flynn scored the second of the half in the 78th thanks to an assist by Landon Sykes. Minutes later, Soren Dujakovich put a cap on the game with a free kick just outside the box that he sent straight under the wall and into the back of the net – his first career goal.

THE NUMBERS
The Battling Bishops were attack-minded all afternoon, taking 33 shots and putting nine on target. Bethany was held to just six shots, three on the mark. OWU was awarded 12 corner kicks and capitalized on two of them.

James O'Connor, Carter Flynn, and Soren Dujakovich move into a four-player tie for the team lead in goals and points with their first goals of the season. O'Connor and Dujakovich made their senior day extra special as their goals were their career firsts.

Vittorio Renda and Landon Sykes picked up the first two Bishop assists of the season.

Andrew Davison (1-0-0) and Zach Hertzberg combined for the shutout. Davison started the game and made one save in the first half. Hertzberg played the second half and made two saves.
