Ohio Wesleyan University junior LaNiece McRae (Youngstown/Chaney) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24, it was announced by the NCAC.
McRae, a post on the Ohio Wesleyan women's basketball team, was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
McRae scored 5 points during a 9-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, then added a pair of timely hoops down the stretch in a 63-57 win at Oberlin on Wednesday. She led the Bishops with 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. McRae then led the Bishops with 18 points and 8 rebounds In Saturday's 65-64 win over top-ranked DePauw. The win marks the first time on record that Ohio Wesleyan has defeated the No.1-ranked team in the nation, and ends DePauw's 58-game winning streak, its 71-game regular-season winning streak, and its 47-game NCAC winning streak.
