Ohio Wesleyan University senior Shouta Fukamachi (Mayfield Heights/Mayfield) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 26, it was announced by the NCAC.
Fukamachi, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan men's tennis team, was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Fukamachi went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 in doubles to help Ohio Wesleyan to 3 wins last week. He was a double winner in Ohio Wesleyan's 9-0 NCAC West Division win over Wittenberg, helping the No. 2 doubles team record an 8-0 win and then posting an epic, come-from-behind win at No. 1 singles. After losing the first set, 6-3, and trailing in the second set, 5-2 and love-40, Fukamachi fought off 3 match points and rallied to win the set, 7-6 (7-3), then went on to win a tiebreaker, 10-7, to take the match. In a 9-0 win over John Carroll, he helped the Bishop No. 1 doubles team to an 8-2 win, then turned in a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. The 2 wins raised his career total to 101, almost evenly divided between singles (50) and doubles (51).
