Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Sarah McQuade (Dublin/Coffman) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 2, it was announced by the NCAC.
McQuade, a guard on the Ohio Wesleyan women's basketball team, was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
McQuade dished out 10 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Bishops defeated Penn State-DuBois, 84-53, in the first round of Ohio Wesleyan's Bishop Classic-Hoops for Hope tournament on Thursday. The 10 assists established a tournament single-game record.
McQuade then scored what proved to be the game-winning basket in the tournament championship game, a 65-63 win over Marietta. McQuade's basket with :18 left gave the Bishops a 65-61 lead, and Ohio Wesleyan withstood a last-second Pioneer rally to win the tournament for the first time since 2008.
McQuade was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
