Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 27, it was announced by the NCAC.
Newman, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team, was named Men's Field Event Performer of the Week.
Newman won the North Coast Athletic Conference decathlon championship at the NCAC combined-events meet on Saturday and Sunday, scoring a total of 5815 points. On Sunday, he had the meet's second-best performances in the discus (94-1) and javelin (132-4), tied for third overall in the pole vault (11-1 3/4). On Saturday, he had the meet's best efforts in the long jump (21-9) and high jump (6-4 1/4). His time of :53.82 in the 400-meter dash was second-best, and his clocking of :11.94 in the 100-meter dash and his throw of 35-5 1/4 in the shot put each ranked third overall.
