Newman Named North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week
Ohio Wesleyan University junior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of May 1, it was announced by the NCAC.
Newman, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team, was named Men's Field Event Athlete of the Week.
Newman won the decathlon competition with a total of 6381 points. Newman had the meet's best efforts in the first 4 events of the day on Saturday, piling up firsts in the 100-meter dash (:11.45), long jump (21-2½), shot put (38-2¼), and high jump (6-5). On Sunday, he had the best performance in the javelin with a throw of 157-8. Newman finished second in the other 5 events, the 400-meter dash (:53.83), the 110-meter hurdles (:15.43), the discus (97-6), the pole vault (13-7¼), and the 1500-meter run (5:18.97). The conference championship in the decathlon was his second. He won the NCAC decathlon in 2015 before finishing fifth last year.
