Ohio Wesleyan University senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 30, it was announced by the NCAC.
Newman, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team, was named Men's Field Events Athlete of the Week.
Newman won the decathlon title at the NCAC combined events competition on Saturday and Sunday, defeating his nearest competitor by more than 1000 points. He had the meet's best performances in the shot put (39-3¼), high jump (6-3¼), 400-meter dash (:52.62), 110-meter hurdles (:15.02), discus (126-4), and pole vault (14-7¼), and tied for first in the long jump (21-5¼). It was his third NCAC decathlon title, following crowns in 2015 and 2017. Newman's score of 6832 points set OWU and NCAC records, and is the top score in NCAA Division III this season.
