We have a really good dynamic with each other on the court and we tend to encourage and support each other...

Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Amelia and Eliza Richardson of the Ohio Wesleyan volleyball team.

Name:  Amelia Richardson, Eliza Richardson

Class year:
Amelia: Junior
Eliza: Freshman

Major:
Amelia:  Exercise science
Eliza:  Environmental studies, pre-law

Minor:
Amelia: Psychology
Eliza:  International studies

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
Amelia:  I chose Ohio Wesleyan because of the amazing chance to get to play volleyball, as well as study in the field that I am interested in and passionate about.
Eliza:  I chose Ohio Wesleyan for the small class sizes, a sense of home, an incredible study abroad program, opportunity to play volleyball, and great liberal arts education.

How/Why did you choose your major?
Amelia:  I chose my major because I am very interested in the health sciences and the fitness world and love helping people to help them be at their best.
Eliza:  One of the things that I am passionate about and have a great amount of concern for is the planet and climate change.  I think that this issue is very pressing on our society today and that we need to take action in order to stop it.  Environmental studies and pre-law will allow me to get a job that will serve the conservation of the planet well.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
Amelia:  I’m not really a superstitious person, however, before a game I am always listening to music to hype myself up and get hyped with the team.
Eliza:  I often prepare for a game by listening to music, going through a stretching routine, and warming up with a ball against the wall to get my arms moving.

What are your plans for after graduation?
Amelia:  I want to go to graduate school and get my doctorate in either physical or occupational therapy and eventually work with kids in the field.
Eliza:  I see myself getting a job with an environmental conservation organization, or going to law school.

What’s it like playing with the other sister? Are you super competitive with one another or do you have a cool dynamic?
Amelia:  We don’t really get too competitive with one another. We do push each other to be our best, and since we are so close off the court, we know how the other is going to react to a certain situation and how to work with them. We also do a really good job of supporting each other and cheering each other on.
Eliza:  I really enjoy playing with Amelia. We have a really good dynamic with each other on the court and we tend to encourage and support each other well because of the fact that we know how each other respond to certain situations. We know how the other will react in certain situations which definitely helps us with knowing how to approach a problem with the other. We are also both strong competitors so there is a very high level of competition when we are on the court with one another.

What is your ideal travel destination?
Amelia:  I want to travel around Africa and go everywhere from Tanzania to go on a safari and be with nature and all the animals, and even all the way up to Morocco because I think the architecture and culture is so pretty up there.
Eliza:  Africa.

Early birds or night owls?
Amelia: I would say I am more of an early bird. Most days I wake up before my alarm even goes off in the morning and feel more productive in the morning. I will sleep in on the rare occasion, but other than that I am up early most days.
Eliza:  Night owl.

What is the best memory you have of growing up together?
Amelia: My best memory growing up with my sister would definitely be the summer days we would spend with each other at the beach. Ever since we were kids, we would always go to the beach either with family or friends and have the best time swimming or even playing some beach volleyball.
Eliza:  Traveling together to places such as France, Italy, and Iceland.
