I fell in love with the campus and team and felt instantly at home...

Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Sarah Hanley of the Ohio Wesleyan field hockey team.

Name:  Sarah Hanley

Class year:  Sophomore

Major:  Health and Human Kinetics: Exercise Science

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because I felt I was surrounded by so many people who cared about my academics and athletic success, as well as my overall well-being. OWU felt like a home to me because it was a good-sized school for me where I didn’t feel like a number, but a face people could recognize. I fell in love with the campus and team and felt instantly at home with people I already knew at the school.

How/Why did you choose your major?
I felt that if I’ve been an athlete my entire life, why not study that? I visited one of my father’s physical therapy appointments after he tore his labrum. He said I should go see what it would be like as a physical therapist. What was most interesting was the wide range of ages. There were elderly, middle-aged adults, and even teens. I was very intrigued and saw myself actually enjoying something I like doing -- helping people become stronger again and having an active lifestyle -- in a job where I’m not sitting all day at a desk.

Why did you chose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I liked that it was Division III, which makes a well-balanced area for both academics and athletics where it’s possible to succeed in both immensely. I continue to play here at OWU because of the competitive programs and conference we’re in. It’s challenging and I have made many lifelong friends along the way on both of my teams.

What are your plans after graduation?
It’s hard to know what I want to do after graduation, but I know I will have to go to graduate school in order to get my doctorate for physical therapy. After that, I think I want to start looking for an internship at a physical therapist practice/office, maybe become a field hockey or lacrosse coach, or open up my own practice/office.

Which reality show would you like to star on and why?
I don’t watch TV much at all anymore, but I would love to star on the Ellen Show because I love watching all the fun things that happen on her show.

What is your ideal travel destination?
Up north with friends to Lake Michigan or going to Rhode Island to relax on a secluded lake house in Hopkinton.
