I grew up hearing about stories (and) I wanted to be a part of that...
Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Elizabeth Dickey of the Ohio Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team.
Name: Elizabeth Dickey
Class year: Freshman
Major: Early Childhood Education
How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I am the 15th member of my family to go to this school so because of the family connections and it almost felt like a right of passage. I grew up hearing about stories from my family members about how much of a great time they had here and I wanted to be a part of that.
How/Why did you choose your major?
I have known that I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid. When I visited OWU I sat in on an education class and instantly fell in love.
Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
Swimming has always been a part of my life. Growing up my mom was my swim coach, and I was always around a pool. I was the captain of my high school swim team, so swimming in college just felt like the next step.
Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I fidget with my goggles and my cap and I shake my hands.
What is the best piece of advice you've received?
The 48-hour rule. My parents always said to not send a text, email, or anything like that when you are sad or mad. What you should do is write a text out, if you feel the same way in 48 hours then you can send it, if you don’t, delete it.
What are some of your favorite movies?
I do not have a favorite movie but I really like the Marvel franchise and Disney Movies.
What is your ideal travel destination?
I love London. I went when I was in sixth grade with my family and loved the people, and the culture. I would also love to go see Australia, never been but it looks beautiful.
If you were told you only had one week left to live, what would be on your bucket list?
Skydiving most definitely, travel probably to Australia, maybe dye my hair, swim in a waterfall, go cliff jumping, have a spa day, go to a music festival.
