Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Canyon McWilliams of the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team.

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I went to school in Florida my freshman year, and after that year I decided I needed to transfer closer to home (Cleveland). I was looking for a good small school in Ohio where I could come and play baseball, and I had a really good friend on the team here who convinced me to come be a Bishop.
How/Why did you choose your majors?
I’ve always loved numbers and loved sports, and since I was very young I’ve wanted to work with sports statistics. I started to take statistics classes and loved them, so I knew going into college that math and stats was what I wanted to do.
Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I came here to play baseball, it's what I have devoted my whole life to!
What academic or athletic achievement are you most proud of?
Winning the Prospect League Home Run Derby in 2019.
What did you do to put yourself in a position to achieve that accomplishment/goal?
I decided to go out of my comfort zone and go to Illinois for the summer to play for a good team, despite not knowing anyone. Then I worked hard and focused fully on baseball all summer and had a great year.
Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are today?
Our head coach here, coach Mott, has helped me a ton (to) become the person I am today on and off the field. I really appreciate the relationship I’ve built with him beyond the diamond.
What are your plans after graduation?
I would like to get into college coaching within the next few years after college, but first I want to get experience with a sports analytics company or in the analytics department for an existing organization.
Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Johnny Manziel, Vince Vaughn, and Ryan Gosling.
What is your favorite place to eat at in Delaware and what is your go-to dish?
Definitely either Victor's Tacos for a steak, egg, cheese and potato breakfast burrito, or Mi Cerritos with the Burrito Azteca and a big bowl of queso!
