The volleyball program encompassed everything I wanted in a sports program...
Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Autumn Ford of the Ohio Wesleyan volleyball team.
Name: Autumn Ford
Class Year: Sophomore
Major: Communications and Social Justice
How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because I wanted to attend a rigorous university while also having the opportunity to play volleyball. Ohio Wesleyan has numerous amounts of opportunities that would allow me to pursue my interests and challenge me academically. The university also has many clubs and groups that allow you connect with people who have similar interests as you. In addition, the school has a plethora of routes to different jobs, internships, and programs that allow you to discover your passion.
How/Why did you choose your major?
I first chose communications as one of my majors because of the variety of topics I could study within the major. I would be able to take classes in journalism, mass media, public relations, political communication and more. The major really helps students develop their communication, writing, and public speaking skills. I felt these are necessary for any field I decide to go into. For my second major I am currently working with the academic affairs department to create a new major called Social Justice with an emphasis on American Politics. I’m really passionate about social justice and how it functions in American politics. This will allow me to pursue any post-grad goals I have, whether it be law school or a master’s program.
Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan because the volleyball program encompassed everything I wanted in a sports program. The coaches are really passionate about helping us become better athletes and women. They really want their athletes to succeed on and off the court. They check in on us regularly to see how we are doing physically, mentally, and academically so they can help in any way that they can. The other women on team are super inclusive, driven, and kind. These factors really got me hooked because I desired a program that was competitive, but also felt like a family and the volleyball program was just that!!
Do you have any pre-event rituals/superstition?
I don’t have many pre-event rituals or superstitions but before every game I just pray for safety and a good time.
What are your strengths as an athlete (as an individual)?
I think one of my biggest strengths as an athlete is that I am a hard worker. I am really intentional about what I do. Anything that I invest time in, I want to make sure I am giving my all and doing the best that I can.
What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
If I could try any other sport it would have to be track. I really enjoy running in my free time so it would be interesting to see what would happen if I did it competitively.
If you were told you only had one week to live, what would be on your bucket list?
I would definitely want to go to Switzerland and Fiji. From what I’ve heard and images I have seen these places are really peaceful and magnificent. I think they would definitely take some of the stress away and be really cool to explore.
What is your spirit animal?
Definitely an owl!!
What is your favorite stay-at-home activity?
Popcorn and a movie with friends!!
What is the last show you binge watched?
The Greenleaf.
