...Small class sizes and a more personal relationship with professors and advisors made OWU a great fit for me.

Name:  Gabe O'Reilly

Class year:  2026

Majors:  Finance, accounting

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because it was the perfect combination of academics and athletics.  Small class sizes and a more personal relationship with professors and advisors made OWU a great fit for me.

Why did you choose your majors?
I chose my majors because I have a strong interest in the business world and aspire to own my own business one day.  By combining finance and accounting, I hope to gain a holistic knowledge of the foundation of the financial world.  Additionally, through the minor in English, I aim to enhance my written and verbal communication skills.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to play on the men's soccer team because of its historic reputation.  (Head coach) Jay (Martin) has cultivated a winning culture that has stood across decades that makes any player want to be a part of (it).

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory on the men's soccer team is our 2022 NCAC tournament championship win at Kenyon after trailing by a goal at half.

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
Another sport I would like to play would be basketball.  I used to play, but dropped it just before high school to focus on soccer.  I have some missed layups from middle school I need to redeem.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
I was fortunate enough to play soccer with both my older and younger brothers in high school and we were always competitive with each other.  They pushed me to not only be a better player, but also a better teammate. I realized that a team truly is a family.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
If I could have any super power, it would be the ability to hit my driver straight down the fairway.  That would tremendously improve my golf game.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite place to eat in Delaware is definitely Son of Thurman and I always get the Kansas City Chef's Burger -- best burger I have ever had.

What is your theme song?
My theme song would probably have to be "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash.

If you could visit another time, when would it be and why?
I would probably visit the '70s.  Afros and discos sound like a good time to me.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
If you are considering becoming a student-athlete, you should know that it is both demanding and rewarding and you won't get one without the other.  Treat academics as seriously as you treat your sport, and you will be successful in both.  Taking care of things off the field directly translates to being able to take care of things on it.
