Bishops Drop Road Match to JCU, 3-1

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday evening to square off with John Carroll. The Battling Bishops struck in the 30th minute, but it would not be enough, as the Blue Streaks prevailed 3-1. 

OWU falls to 6-4-5 overall and 2-2-1 in the NCAC. JCU advances to 6-7-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

JCU got on the board first, striking in the 27th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Red and Black quickly responded, as Gabe O'Reilly set up Rowan Kriebel just three minutes later to even the contest. With just six seconds remaining in the half, the Blue Streaks took the lead, giving OWU a one-goal deficit at intermission. 

In the 52nd minute, John Carroll added an insurance goal. The Bishops generated five shots in the second half, but were unable to respond, leaving the final scoreline at 3-1.  

THE NUMBERS
Both sides recorded nine shots overall, with JCU holding a slight 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. 

Rowan Kriebel notched his second goal of the season on four shots, two of which were on goal. 

Gabe O'Reilly tallied his first assist of the year, bringing his season point total to seven. 

Others generating opportunities included Matt Boyd (1 SH, 1 SOG), Gabe O'Reilly (1 SH, 1 SOG), and Tristan Ruiz de Somocurcio (1 SH, SOG). Carson Browning (1 SH) and Callum Wiggins (1 SH) accounted for the other two chances.

Sam Whitman (6-4-5) played the full 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.

The Bishops look to get back in the win column on Saturday, as they travel to Wooster. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
