Boyd Nets Late Goal to Tie Wooster, 2–2

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team continued conference play as they traveled north to take on Wooster. After a 2-1 halftime deficit for the Battling Bishops, Matt Boyd delivered an equalizer in the 81st minute, leaving both sides knotted at two after 90 minutes. 

OWU moves to 6-4-6 overall, with a 2-2-2 mark in the NCAC. Wooster stands at 10-0-5, and 3-0-3 in conference. 

Wooster struck first in the 25th minute, as Aris Christodoulou found the back of the net. The Red and Black responded seven minutes later, as Jack Jennings set up Gabe O'Reilly, who delivered, bringing them even with the Fighting Scots. Just 35 seconds later, Wooster responded when a blocked shot fell to Connor Shea, who converted. The Scots took a 2-1 lead into halftime. 

After the break, Freshman Matt Boyd buried a strike courtesy of an assist via Gabe O'Reilly in the 81st minute. Neither side was able to break through in the remainder of the contest, leaving the final scoreline 2-2.

THE NUMBERS
OWU outshot the Scots 30-12, with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The Bishops earned seven corners to Wooster's three.

Gabe O'Reilly took four shots, netting his third goal and fifth assist of the season, bringing his season point total to 11. 

Matt Boyd notched his fourth goal of the year, increasing his season point total to eight points.  

Jack Jennings recorded an assist, his second of the year. 

Others taking chances were Ryan Betts (4 SH, 2 SOG), Carson Browning (3 SH, 2 SOG), Tristan Ruiz de Somocurcio (4 SH, 1 SOG), Vittorio Renda (3 SH, 1 SOG), Callum Wiggins (2 SH, 1 SOG),  Alex Bucher (1 SH, 1 SOG), Aiden Wightman (1 SH, 1 SOG), Maddox Andrea (1 SH, 1 SOG), Jack Jennings (2 SH), Luis Cañas (1 SH), and Mitchell Cosler (1 SH). 

Sam Whitman (6-4-6) got the start in goal and played the full 90 minutes, making two saves.

The Bishops continue conference play Wednesday, as they host Oberlin at Jay Martin Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
