GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team concluded their weekend trip to Michigan on Saturday night against Calvin, ending in a 1-2 loss.
The Knights broke out to an early lead, scoring in the 14th minute. Calvin would add another in the 48th to make it a two-goal game before the Bishops quickly responded, scoring in the 49th to take the deficit back down to one. Despite their best efforts, OWU would be unable to equalize in the remaining 41 minutes with the game remaining 1-2 at the close.
With the loss, the Red and Black fall to 0-2-0 on the new season. Calvin moves to 1-1-0.
THE NUMBERS
The chances were split evenly at 12 apiece, with Ohio Wesleyan holding a slight advantage in shots on target, 4-3.
Ryan Betts netted his first goal of the season and the first for the team on the new year as well. It was the second of his career. All-in-all he had four shots, with the goal being the lone strike on target.
Jack Jennings and
Carter Flynn each took two chances and also both put one of their two on target.
Sam Robledo put his only opportunity on target.
Carson Browning took two shots, both falling offline.
Sam Whitman (0-2-0) got the start in goal and played the full 90 minutes, making three saves.
