SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team began day one of the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Friday evening with a matchup against Baldwin Wallace. The Battling Bishops came up short in three tight sets, dropping the match 3-0.
OWU falls to 3-5 on the season, Baldwin Wallace moves to 4-4.
The Bishops faced a 21-17 deficit in set one, but rallied back to tie the set at 24 before Baldwin Wallace ultimately pulled away taking a 27-25 victory. Set two brought the same intensity, with both sides trading points before the Yellow Jackets pulled out a 26-24 win. The Red and Black continued to battle in set three, as both teams were deadlocked at 14 midway through. Baldwin Wallace found their rhythm shortly after and pulled ahead 22-15, leading to a set and match win of 25-18.
THE NUMBERS
OWU recorded 40 kills in the match,
Natalie Dieball and
Megan Lantis led the way with 10 apiece.
Jordanne Shannon followed closely with eight.
The Bishops served up four aces, with
Jenna Ashbrook, Lindsay Mayor,
Natalie Dieball, and
Maggi Wall all contributing one.
The Red and Black would make three blocks in the contest, as Lantis, Mayor, and
Abby Nulph each recorded one.
Jenna Ashbrook was the leading setter with 17 of the team's 36 assists, followed closely by
Lily Bechina with 16.
Mayor led the team with nine digs. Ashbrook and Dieball each tallied eight.
