SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team wrapped up competition at the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Saturday, earning a split with a win against Ohio Northern and a loss to Transylvania.
The Battling Bishops are now 4-5 on the season.
GAME ONE: OHIO WESLEYAN 3-2 OHIO NORTHERN
OWU would finally break back into the win column in game one against Ohio Northern despite needing five sets to do so. It was pretty close throughout, with only one set being decided by more than five points. The Red and Black came out strong, winning set one 25-20 but would lose set two 25-18. Ohio Wesleyan bounced back in set three 25-20 again before dropping set four 25-20. Fortunately, the Bishops had the final say in set five, winning the set 15-13, and the game 3-2.
Jordanne Shannon had nearly a third of the Bishops' 61 kills, notching a career-high 17.
Natalie Dieball dropped in 15 and
Megan Lantis tallied 13.
OWU notched four aces with
Mason Campbell having two and Dieball and
Maggi Wall each having one.
The Red and Black made seven blocks, led by
Reagan Brake with three and
Abby Nulph and Shannon with two apiece.
Jenna Ashbrook was the leading setter with 34 of the team's 49.
Lily Bechina had 12 and
Bella Guzzetta had two.
Guzzetta led on defense with 24 digs, joined by Lantis with 15 and Dieball with 12.
GAME TWO: OHIO WESLEYAN 0-3 TRANSYLVANIA
The Battling Bishops would struggle in game two, losing in straight sets. Things got off to a rough start in set one as OWU lost 25-15. Ohio Wesleyan kept set two close but ultimately came up short, 25-23. Transylvania then shut the door in set three, 25-9.
Jordan Shannon led on offense again with five kills, followed by
Natalie Dieball with four and
Jada Colvin with two.
The Bishops had two aces, one by Dieball and the other by
Jenna Ashbrook.
OWU would have seven blocks with
Reagan Brake getting four and Shannon and
Abby Nulph getting three each.
Bella Guzzetta tallied eight digs on defense.
Mason Campbell had six and Dieball and Ashbrook both had five.
