COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team traveled to Capital on Wednesday evening, looking to secure their second road victory of the season. The Battling Bishops stood firm in the first half, but three quick strikes from Capital to begin the second half left OWU with a 3-0 loss.
The loss drops Ohio Wesleyan to 3-3-2 on the year, as Capital advances to 4-2-1.
The Red and Black struggled to get their offense going in the first half, tallying just two shots. After the break, Capital's Bella Leonetti broke the scoreless tie as she found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Just three minutes later, Juli Sprague doubled the lead to 2-0, before notching another insurance goal in the 54th minute as the Comets quickly took control of the contest, 3-0.
The Bishops generated multiple opportunities following the offensive outburst from Capital but could not convert, leaving the final scoreline at 3-0.
THE NUMBERS
The Battling Bishops would get five shots off, with four on goal. Capital finished with 15 shots, eight of them on target.
OWU did not earn a corner in the contest. Capital tallied 14.
Offensively, the Bishops were led by
Jordyn Adams (3 SH, 2 SOG), Kaia Vorencamp (1 SH), and
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold (1 SH).
Senior
Natalie Ryan (3-3-2) played the first 51 minutes and collected three saves. Sophomore
Payton Beard finished the contest, making two saves.
