DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team looked to end their two-game skid Friday evening as they hosted Hanover. Two early goals followed by sturdy defensive play on each side kept the contest even at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
The tie moves Ohio Wesleyan to 3-3-3 on the year, as Hanover moves to 2-3-2.
Hanover struck first in the ninth minute, as an attempted OWU clearance on a corner kick redirected into the goal for a 1-0 lead. In the 23rd minute, Kaia Vorencamp's shot rattled off the crossbar and fell to
Paige Neal, who buried the rebound to even the score at 1-1. The Bishops produced multiple chances to pull ahead in the contest following the goal by Neal, but were unable to capitalize, settling for their third draw of the season.
A defensive unit led by
Ava Kolettis,
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold, and
Lily VanOrmer battled relentlessly throughout the match.
THE NUMBERS
The Battling Bishops fired 18 shots, five on goal, while Hanover tallied 16 attempts with three on target.
OWU earned two corner kicks, while Hanover notched seven.
