Flynn and O’Reilly Lift Bishops to 2-0 Victory over Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team traveled to West Virginia on Saturday morning to take on Bethany. The Battling Bishops found the back of the net twice in the contest and stood strong defensively, propelling them to a 2-0 victory. 

OWU advances to 2-2-3 on the season, Bethany drops to 1-3-2.

In the 24th minute, senior Gabe O'Reilly fired a shot on goal that was saved, but the rebound fell right back to O'Reilly, who capitalized by burying it in the back of the net. The Bishops weren't finished, as Carter Flynn tacked on an insurance goal in the 62nd minute courtesy of an assist from Luis Cañas. 

A defensive front anchored by Alex Bucher, Carson Browning, Gabe O'Reilly, and Callum Wiggins lifted the Red and Black to their second shutout of the season. 

THE NUMBERS 
OWU held a 16-5 advantage in shots, with a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. 

The Bishops earned six corners to Bethany's two. 

Gabe O'Reilly notched his first goal of the season, taking three shots with all three on goal.

Carter Flynn records the first goal of his career, taking one shot off the bench. 

Other Bishops generating chances include Aiden Wightman (3 SH, 2 SOG), Rowan Kriebel (2 SH, 1 SOG), Sam Robledo (2 SH), Luis Cañas (1 SH, 1 A), Alex Bucher (1 SH, 1 SOG), Paddy O'Reilly (1 SH, 1 SOG), Aedan Costa (1 SH), and Carson Browning (1 SH).

Sam Whitman (2-2-3) got the start, playing 75 minutes and making two saves. Sophomore Zach Hertzberg finished the contest.
