COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team made the short trip south to Columbus on Wednesday night to take on Capital. The Battling Bishops tallied two first half goals, adding another in the second half en route to a 3-1 win.
OWU moves to 3-2-3 on the season. Capital drops to 1-4-1.
The Bishops got on the board early as
Callum Wiggins scored in the eighth minute of the game, sending a ball into the upper right side of the net off of an assist from
Ryan Betts.
Sam Owusu Sarfo added a second in the 30th minute to give the Red and Black a 2-0 lead at the half.
Capital pulled back within one goal to start the second half, making it 2-1 in the 50th minute. Ohio Wesleyan would cancel that out as they added their third goal of the game in the 57th minute thanks to
Tristan Ruiz de Somocurcio. From there, the Battling Bishops took their new two-goal lead to the end, winning 3-1.
THE NUMBERS
OWU's offense held the possession throughout most of the game, firing off 10 shots compared to Capital's seven. The Bishops were also more accurate, putting 70% of shots on goal compared to 50% from the other side.
Callum Wiggins scored the first goal of his young career.
Sam Owusu Sarfo and
Tristan Ruiz de Somocurcio both scored their first goals of the season.
Ryan Betts tallied his second assist of the year.
Sam Whitman (3-2-3) got the start and played the first 81 minutes, making one save.
Zach Hertzberg came in for the final nine minutes.
