DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team took on Marietta on Saturday afternoon at
Jay Martin Soccer Complex. The Battling Bishops scored thrice en route to their third straight win with
Tristan Ruiz de Somocurcio scoring two of those goals, ending in a 3-1 victory.
OWU moves to 4-2-3 on the season with conference play on the horizon. Marietta is now 3-5-2.
The Red and Black got on the board first in the 11th minute as
Callum Wiggins sent a long ball over the top to
Gabe O'Reilly. O'Reilly then sent it through the box to find Ruiz de Somocurcio on the back post for the 1-0 lead. Marietta soon responded with their first in the 26th minute via a breakaway goal to tie it at 1-1.
That tie was short-lived as the Bishops soared back ahead just thirty seconds later. Again it was O'Reilly on the assist, this time setting up
Mitchell Cosler for the score. After gaining a 2-1 advantage in the first half, Ohio Wesleyan added another in the second half with Ruiz de Somocurcio scoring his second of the game in the 67th minute off of an assist from – you guessed it – O'Reilly. This put the game well in hand, ending at 3-1 for the Battling Bishops.
