MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's and women's tennis teams traveled to play Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon. The Bishops came up with clean sweeps on both sides, taking all 18 matches and winning 7-0 and 7-0. The OWU men are now 2-0 and the OWU women open up their season 1-0.
MEN
The Red and Black roared out to a 1-0 lead in the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles. The pair of
Jared Crawford and
Zach Heister took match three in dominating fashion with a 6-1 win. The combo of
Gabe Fogle and
Rainer Holl alongside the combo
Kobe Francis and
Marcus Bode followed suit with 6-2 wins in matches one and two.
Ohio Wesleyan then shut the door with a 6-0 sweep in singles. Bode led the way with a shutout of his opponent in match four, winning 6-0, 6-0. Holl and
Max Casto were right behind, only surrendering one game each in matches two and six, both winning 6-1, 6-0. Francis was next with a 6-0, 6-2 win in match one, followed by Heister with a 6-4, 6-3 win in match three, and Crawford with a tiebreaker win in match five, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).
WOMEN
The OWU women would take care of business on the other side, also starting with a 1-0 lead after a 3-0 sweep of doubles.
Mallory Hannan and
Lily Hershey secured a 6-1 win in match one, joined by
Evaleigh Garnett and
Marissa Zaleski with a 6-3 win in match two.
Emma Pzedpelski and
Riley Brokaw took match three by forfeit.
The Bishops then powered past MVNU with a 6-0 sweep in singles. Pzedpelski led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 win in match three. Hannan notched a 6-1, 6-1 win in match one. Hershey and Zaleski secured wins in matches two and four with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively. Garnett tallied a 6-3, 6-2 victory in match five with Daniela Guzman taking the final point with a win by default in match six.
