CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Tuesday morning, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) announced its Athletes of the Week for the past week of competition. Ohio Wesleyan University reeled in the awards with five total – the most for OWU in a single week this academic year. Earning recognition was
Garrett Smith from men's lacrosse,
Katherine Dortmund and
Emily Davis from women's track & field, and
Nate Snead and
Connor Smith from men's track & field.
Garrett Smith led the Battling Bishops men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over rival Denison on Saturday, putting up a career-high six points on four goals and two assists with three ground balls. He also contributed to three of the six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, catalyzing the surge that turned a three-goal deficit into a three-goal victory.
Dortmund turned in two program records and secured three event victories over the weekend at the Washington & Lee Carnival. First, she helped to break the 4x100-meter relay record alongside
Aelyn Baumbarger,
Kennedy Elfers, and
Alaina Nathan, running a 46.99 for first place. Next, she broke the 100-meter dash with a 12.11. Finally, she finished first in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.02.
Snead dropped a program record as well at the W&L Carnival, teaming up with
Joel Adade,
Connor Smith, and
Ryan Tripp to run a 41.36 for first place. He also took the top spot in the 100-meter dash with a 10.74, and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at 21.92.
Connor Smith continued his national championship form with a first place finish in the high jump at the W&L Carnival, jumping 1.99 meters. He also took part in breaking the aforementioned 4x100-meter relay record.
Davis secured the top mark in the discus at the W&L Carnival with a personal-best throw of 42.06 meters. She also finished 10th in the hammer throw at 39.09 meters.
The Red and Black track & field teams travel to WashU and Denison this weekend for the WashU Distance Carnival and the Denison Lid-Lifter. The Bishops men's lacrosse team travels to Oberlin on Saturday for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
This now makes 21 NCAC Athlete of the Week selections Ohio Wesleyan this academic year.
