DELAWARE, Ohio – This past Friday, D3baseball.com released its 50th Anniversary Team – also known as the Golden Team – recognizing the best of the best of the past 50 years in celebration of the 50th Division III baseball championship. Former Ohio Wesleyan University first baseman Drew Caravella '02 was selected to the second team.

Caravella was a three-time All-American and a four-time All-NCAC first baseman, and perhaps the most prolific slugger in Ohio Wesleyan history. He was named North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and honorable mention All-NCAC as a freshman after batting .352 with nine home runs and 47 runs batted in.

As a sophomore, Caravella batted .439 with 12 home runs and 75 runs batted in – leading the NCAC in batting and RBIs and ranking fifth in homers – and was named NCAC Player of the Year in addition to first-team All-NCAC, first-team all-region, and second-team All-America honors.

During his junior year, Caravella batted .447 (third in the NCAC) with 16 home runs (third in the NCAC) and 82 runs batted in (led the NCAC). He was named most valuable player of the NCAC all-tournament team, and received first-team All-NCAC, all-region, and All-America honors.

As a senior, Caravella was named Division III Player of the Year, repeated as a first-team All-NCAC, first-team all-region, and first-team All-America selection, and was named NCAC Player of the Year for the second time. He led the NCAC in batting (.534), hits (87), doubles (21), and runs batted in (89) and ranked second in home runs (16). He was named to both NCAC and Mideast Regional tournament teams. 

Caravella's career batting average of .445 set an Ohio Wesleyan program record, as did his 297 hits, 53 home runs, 293 runs batted in, 531 total bases, and .796 slugging percentage. During his four years, the Bishops were 152-50 (.752) with four NCAA Tournament appearances and two conference championships.

Caravella was inducted into the OWU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also named to the D3baseball.com 2000s All-Decade First Team.
