DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team (1-2-2, 0-0-0 NCAC) earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, outlasting Asbury (2-1-1, 0-0-0 CCS).
Jayelin Alexander recorded the lone goal of the game to lift the Bishops to a 1-0 victory.
Prior to kickoff the Battling Bishops honored seniors

OWU got off seven shots in the first half and put two on target. The Red and Black finally broke through in the 43rd minute as Alexander beat the keeper from outside the box for a 1-0 lead at the half.
Asbury seemed to level the game with a ball in the back of the net in the 75th minute, however, the goal was called back due to a foul on the keeper. The Battling Bishops took advantage of the new life with increased pressure on the Eagles goal with less than five minutes left. OWU took four shots in rapid succession following a corner, forcing Asbury to make two saves, but came up empty.
Asbury had one final push in the waning seconds with a pair of shots. The final strike of the game was saved from the upper right by
Payton Beard to secure the shutout and the 1-0 win.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan had 18 shots, putting seven on target. Asbury recorded 10 shots with four on target.
Jayelin Alexander scored her first goal of the season.
Ava DeBolt (1-0) and
Payton Beard combined for the clean sheet. DeBolt started the game and made two saves in the first half. Beard made two saves in the second half.
