Men’s Soccer Outmatched in Season-Opener at CWRU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NCAC) traveled to Case Western Reserve (1-0-0, 0-0-0 UAA) on Tuesday night. The Battling Bishops took the lead within seven minutes but soon conceded five goals before the half. The Spartans scored once more in the second half to make it a 6-1 result.

Cade Wurstner put the Bishops ahead in the seventh minute, scoring unassisted at the 6:24 mark. CWRU responded with a blitz of three goals in the 14th, 15th, and 16th minutes – the 15th-minute goal coming via a penalty kick. Before the Red and Black could answer, Case Western Reserve added another two in the 24th and 38th, making it a 5-1 game at the break.

The final change to the scoreline was an 84th-minute addition by the Spartans, bringing it to 6-1.

THE NUMBERS
The Bishops took 10 shots, putting four on target. Case Western Reserve had 17 attempts, 10 on frame. Ohio Wesleyan was awarded one corner kick in comparison to six for CWRU.

Cade Wurstner opened his OWU account with a goal in his debut. The senior transfer also takes the season points lead with two.

Zach Hertzberg (0-1) made his first career start and played the first 63:13, making three saves. Andrew Davison made his OWU debut playing the final 26:47, responsible for one save.
