MARIETTA, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team (2-3-3, 0-0-0 NCAC) wrapped up a busy home-and-away weekend at Marietta (1-4-1, 0-0-0) on Sunday afternoon. The Battling Bishops and Pioneers were evenly-matched through-and-through, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
The first half was an even split of attacks with five chances apiece. Marietta took the initial offensive push with all five shots coming in the first 11 minutes, including testing OWU goalkeeper
Payton Beard just 18 seconds after kickoff.
After that it was Ohio Wesleyan's turn with four chances before the end of the half.
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold challenged Marietta's keeper twice but both were saved.
The Bishops kept the pressure on with four attempts to start the second half.
Jordyn Adams managed two shots on target but both were saved. OWU would send two more towards goal in the remainder of the game, both falling offline.
Beard was called into action twice more as the Pioneers put two of their four second-half shots on target. She saved both to keep the clean sheet and end the game at 0-0.
THE NUMBERS
Shot attempts were fairly evenly split at 11-9 in favor of Ohio Wesleyan. Shots on target followed the same trend at 4-3 for OWU. The Battling Bishops were awarded six corners compared to three for the Pioneers. Marietta made four saves in contrast to three for the Bishops.
Jordyn Adams led the attacking efforts with three attempts, two on target.
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold had two shots, both on the mark.
Payton Beard (1-1-1) recorded her second straight complete-game shutout with three saves in 90 minutes.
