BETHANY, W.Va. – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-3-4, 0-0-0 NCAC) traveled to West Virginia to verse Bethany (0-8-2, 0-4-0 PAC) on Saturday evening. The Bishops had an ultimate offensive match, holding 60% possession and winning 3-0 against the Bison.
Ohio Wesleyan was heavily on the offensive end in the first half with seven scoring chances in the first 28 minutes. Five of those chances were put on target with the fifth going through for the game's first goal. Sophomore
Anna Miller scored the opener in the 28th minute on a rebound of a shot by
Ava Schier. The Bishops followed with seven more shots before half ran out but were unsuccessful, leading to a halftime score of 1-0
The Red and Black doubled their lead in the second half when sophomore
Jayelin Alexander slotted one into the lower right in the 56th minute to make it 2-0. Miller wrapped up the game with another goal in the 88th minute off of an assist from freshman
Maggie Garverick. The two goals came as part of another OWU offensive barrage in the latter 45 minutes that featured 12 shots, ending with a 3-0 win.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan had 26 shots with 13 shots on goal, holding Bethany to zero attempts. The Bishops earned nine corners, compared to the Bisons' zero.
Anna Miller recorded her first two career goals.
Jayelin Alexander scored her second goal of the season.
Ava Schier had the most shots with five, a career high. Alexander followed close behind with four.
Bailey Hawkins,
Kaia Vorenkamp, and Miller each had three.
Maggie Garverick collected her first career assist.
