DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team (0-2, 0-0 NCAC) secured their first win of the season on Friday night, defeating Capital (0-2, 0-0 OAC) in straight sets. The meeting – a part of the Wittenberg Fall Classic – was the first of two between the Bishops and the Comets this season.
The Battling Bishops powered past Capital with a 25-12 win in set one. As a group, the Red and Black recorded a hitting percentage of .278.
Natalie Dieball led the way with four kills, joined by
Jordanne Shannon,
Abby Nulph, and
Mason Campbell all with three.
Jenna Ashbrook collected 13 assists.
Set two was the closest of the night at 25-19. Ohio Wesleyan nabbed an early command at 14-8 and kept the Comets at a steady separation of six to seven points from then on out. OWU would drop in six service aces, led by Dieball and
Sarah Thomas with two each.
The Battling Bishops secured the match win with a 25-16 mark in set three, hitting their best percentage so far in the young season at .279. Shannon and Nulph both finished with four kills. Ashbrook recorded 11 assists.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan dominated on the offensive end with 41 kills compared to 15 for Capital. Dieball dropped in a team-leading 10 followed by
Jordanne Shannon with nine and
Abby Nulph with eight.
OWU was on point from the serving line with 11 service aces.
Sarah Thomas led the team with a career-high five aces.
On the defensive end, the Bishops pulled off four blocks. Nulph finished with three, followed by
Jenna Ashbrook and Shannon with two each. Ashbrook also had 33 assists.
Avery Krause led the dig team with 17. Thomas tallied the second-most at 11.
Maggi Wall would finish third with seven.

OWU will continue action at the Wittenberg Fall Classic tomorrow in Springfield with their first doubleheader of the season. The Bishops play Illinois Tech at 11 a.m. followed by a non-conference match with Wittenberg at 1:30 p.m.
