Volleyball Drops Doubleheader in Wittenberg Fall Classic

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team (1-3, 0-0 NCAC) wrapped up action at the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Saturday, playing a doubleheader against Illinois Tech and hosts Wittenberg. The Battling Bishops were on the losing side of both matches, falling by identical scores of 3-1.

MATCH ONE: OHIO WESLEYAN 1, ILLINOIS TECH 3
The Red and Black came out on top in set one, winning 25-20. The Bishops nearly took a 2-0 lead as they built up to a 20-16 lead in set two, but soon conceded a 9-3 run and ended on the losing side of a 25-23 result. OWU would keep it close in sets three and four but ultimately fall 25-20 and 25-19.

Jordanne Shannon tied her career high of 17 kills. Natalie Dieball and Abby Nulph both finished with 11.

Dieball, Avery Krause, and Sydney Dales all had two service aces.

Anna Kenealy led Ohio Wesleyan with four blocks. Shannon was second with three.

Jenna Ashbrook collected 40 assists – one off of her career high.

Avery Krause finished with a career-high 28 digs. Dieball had 12 and Jenna Ashbrook had nine.

MATCH TWO: OHIO WESLEYAN 1, WITTENBERG 3
OWU got a preview of the unanimous NCAC favorite Wittenberg in match two, meeting for a non-conference match. Again, the Battling Bishops took set one, dominating 25-14. The Tigers turned the tables 25-16 in set two to tie up the match at 1-1. The Bishops were close to jumping back ahead in set three, battling back from a 21-16 deficit to get within one at 24-23. Unfortunately, Wittenberg took the match point and won the set 25-23 before taking set four 25-19.

Jada Colvin nabbed a career-high 13 kills. Jordanne Shannon followed with 11 and Natalie Dieball finished with seven.

Dieball led the team with three service aces, followed by Sydney Dales with two.

Abby Nulph finished with a team-high four blocks. Dieball and Shannon each had two.

Jenna Ashbrook recorded 32 assists.

Avery Krause led OWU with 25 digs. Dieball and Sarah Thomas tied for second with nine.

UP NEXT
The Red and Black are back in action next weekend at the NCAC/MIAA Crossover hosted by Hope. The Bishops play Calvin on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader against Albion and Hope at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
