DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team (0-1-1, 0-0-0 NCAC) hosted Saint Francis (0-1-1, 0-0-0 PAC) on Friday night at
Jay Martin Soccer Complex, ending in a 1-1 tie.
The Battling Bishops seemed to hold the upper hand in a scoreless first half, creating nine chances compared to SFU's two. Five of those chances were put on frame. The game became more of a back-and-forth affair in the second half as either side seemed capable of scoring at any moment. Saint Francis was the first to break through in the 64th minute with a shot from outside the box that found the upper right corner.
It took the Bishops all of five minutes to put together a response, equalizing the game at 1-1 in the 69th minute.
Alex Foster found herself in space and streaking towards the goal unmarked with the ball. As the keeper turned her attention to the oncoming OWU attacker, Foster slipped a pass across the goal to
Taylor Noszka who hammered it home.
The contest continued to get chippier towards the end. The Red Wolves had their chance to pull back ahead in the 81st minute but back-to-back save by
Payton Beard kept them quiet. Ohio Wesleyan challenged in the final seven minutes, putting two shots on target, but both came up empty and ultimately the clock ran out with the game still tied at 1-1.
THE NUMBERS
The Red and Black recorded 20 shots with 10 on frame. Saint Francis finished with eight shots and six on the mark. OWU was awarded five corner kicks compared to two for SFU.
Taylor Noszka scored her first goal of the season. She is now tied for the team points lead at two.
Alex Foster recorded her first assist of the year.
Ava DeBolt (0-1-1) made the start in goal and played the first 70:42, making two saves.
Payton Beard played the final 19:18, also making two saves. Ohio Wesleyan had one team save.
