The Ohio Wesleyan strength and conditioning program seeks to provide the optimum training program, professionally implemented, to maximize athletic performance, and reduce the risk of injury while increasing team success. Every student-athlete will have the opportunity to improve the abilities and skills respective to their sport performance through proper strength and conditioning.
The program's primary goal is to minimize risk of injury by preparing all student-athletes for the demands of competition. The strength training program is based primarily on developing power and speed through the use of the Olympic lifts and supplementary lifts. The majority of exercises are free-weight and or ground-based, multi-joint oriented.
The second goal of the program is to improve the performance capabilities of each student-athlete and contribute to the success of each team. Throughout the year each team will do periodic testing to see the gains in strength and fitness levels that each individual has made. Along with strength training in the strength and conditioning room, every team will do speed, agility, plyometric, flexibility and conditioning work in various facilities.
The Ohio Wesleyan strength and conditioning room, located in the basement of Edwards Gym, was renovated in 2012.
