Ohio Wesleyan University sophomore Devin Van Winkle (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 27, it was announced by the NCAC.
Van Winkle, a first baseman on the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team, was named Baseball Player of the Week.
Van Winkle set one school record and tied 2 others against Marietta on Thursday. He smashed 3 home runs and drove in 8 runs, tying school single-game records, and his 15 total bases in the game broke the old school mark of 14. In an NCAC West Division series at Wittenberg, he drove in 2 runs in the opener on Sunday, then doubled in a run in the nightcap. In Monday's doubleheader at Wittenberg, he singled home what proved to be the deciding runs in the opener and went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI in the nightcap. On the week, he batted .524 (11-for-21) with 5 doubles and 3 home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.190. He drove in 16 runs and scored 8 runs.
