Ohio Wesleyan University senior Emily Brown (New Concord/John Glenn) has been named a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 26, it was announced by the NCAC.
Brown, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan women's track & field team, was named Women's Field Events Athlete of the Week.
Brown won the pentathlon championship at the NCAC multi-events meet. With the conference title on the line heading into the day's final event, the 800-meter run, Brown recorded a 2:28.43 to post the fastest time of the meet -- more than 3 seconds ahead of her nearest compeititor -- and take the individual title. Brown had opened the day's competition with a :09.70 clocking in the 60-meter hurdles, ranking third overall, then cleared 4-7¾ in the shot put to tie for fifth place before her throw of 28-10½ in the shot put was fourth overall. Brown put herself in position to challenge for the title by coming through with the day's best leap in the long jump (17-8¼), setting up the decisive 800-meter run. Brown's score of 3135 points broke the school record of 2965 set in 2016. It was her second consecutive All-NCAC citation in the pentathlon, following a second-place finish in 2017.
