Meet the Bishops:  Alyssa Acevedo

Sport:  Women's Track & Field

Major:  Sociology/anthropology

Class Year:  2019

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I originally heard about OWU when the head track and field coach, Kris Boey, came to recruit me at my high school.  As I looked into the school further, I realized that it had the perfect class sizes, campus involvement, and opportunities I was looking for in a university.

Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major my sophomore year after taking Intro to Sociology as well as Social Inequality.  I knew I loved the content in the courses and could use the open-minded and liberal basis as a good stepping stone for furthering a career in either nonprofit work or children’s social services.

What is your favorite event?
The short sprint hurdle races such as the 60-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles.  They are all about form, technique, and speed.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
I wouldn’t say that I have any superstitions but I definitely do the exact same routine before getting into the blocks to race every single time I compete.  This is a very common thing that you will find out about sprinters.  We all have our own little routine that we follow to become mentally ready to race before entering the blocks.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware and what is your go-to dish there?
I love Mexican food so I would have to say that my favorite place to eat in Delaware is El Vaquero. My go-to dish is always a chicken burrito with rice on the side.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Martin Luther King, Jr., Anne Frank, and Harriet Tubman.
