Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Jeffrey Hudson of the Ohio Wesleyan men's basketball team.

Class Year: 2021

Major: Health and human kinetics: exercise science

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I felt comfortable on my visit. I liked how my meeting went with my coaches while I was on campus. Also, I knew the academics would challenge me, but still give me space and time to do other things on campus.

How/Why did you choose your major?
When I was about 12 years old I went to physical therapy with my mom, and the doctor was nice enough to let me help out. She allowed me to toss my mother balls as she balanced on one leg and other things like that. From that day on, I was interested in the body and how it moves and works.

Why did you decide to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I knew I wanted to play basketball at a high level since I was four years old. My coaches believed I’d be a good fit on the team so, after lots of sharing of film and calls with my high school coach, the OWU coaches offered me a spot on the team.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
First, Coach Mike Sr., who I met in ninth grade. He was the first coach that put me through drills consistently and and taught me the fundamentals of basketball. Before I met him, my skills were based off what I learned playing basketball in the park and at summer camps. Second, Coach Arnell, my high school assistant coach who also ran his own program separate from my high school. While Coach Mike taught me the fundamentals, Coach Arnell helped me build off of those, and then put me in tournaments with some of the best talents in New York City so I could apply my knowledge. Lastly, my high school head coach Coach Carmine. My senior year, he endlessly called college coaches to foster interest in me and, in turn, helped me receive offers to play collegiately. During the season, he also taught me a lot of offensive and defensive sets to help raise my basketball IQ. This helped me transition to the college game easier.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I always put on my left sock then right sock, followed by my left shoe then my right shoe. In that order.

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
Volleyball and baseball. I used to play baseball when I was younger but, when I started getting serious about basketball, I dropped it.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
J. Cole, Barack Obama, and LeBron James.

If you could visit another time period, when would it be and why?
I’m stuck between visiting 1920s New York, during the Harlem Renaissance, or traveling to the distant future to see how the world has progressed and changed.
