Meet the Bishops: Get to know a little about Cirrus Robinson of the Ohio Wesleyan women's track and field team.
Name: Cirrus Robinson
Class year: Senior
Major: Early Childhood Education Pre K-3
Minor: Sociology/anthropology
How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
The chemistry on the track team and relationships they had with coaches was important to me, especially the dynamic of a smaller team with such a successful legacy. Also, being able to engage in internships and travel opportunities while having such a presence on the team was important to my academic interests. There’s always room to grow here.
How/Why did you choose your major?
I originally intended to use a sociology degree to move on to social justice work and legal assistance. But in learning about the inequities of the American education system and doing long-term research in a school, I was moved to tend to the source of the problem and make ground-level differences in the lives of children and families.
Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
My coach, Kris Boey, took us to Olive Garden the night before I became a national champion for the first time, my freshman year. I think we got too scared to eat anywhere else after that.
What athletic or academic achievement are you most proud of?
I’ve been proud of the stamina of my coach and I throughout the NCAA trips over the years. It would have been easy to get swept up in that first victory, but he always encouraged me to have higher aspirations and challenge myself to be better. And now we have four titles because of that attitude. On a non-national scale, I’ve been proud to have a few 4x2 and 4x4 conference titles. There’s nothing like putting in an entire season of practices next to your teammates and having it pay off altogether.
What are your plans after graduation?
Being new to Columbus, I plan to stay rooted in this school system and maintain my relationship with the A Good Start Foundation that seeks readiness opportunities in urban Columbus. I aspire to be teaching in the Central Ohio area as of fall next year.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Flying could help me out a bit, I’d say.
What is your favorite place to eat at in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
Hamburger Inn. French toast. Four years strong.
Which reality show would you like to star on and why?
Not sure if SNL counts, but that is still the answer.
