(I) ended up walking on as a thrower and I fell in love...

Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Christian DeWiggins of the Ohio Wesleyan men's track and field team.

Name:  Christian DeWiggins

Class year:  Junior

Major:  Accounting

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I was local to the area and I had heard about Ohio Wesleyan’s business department and how great it was.

How/Why did you choose your major?
I took a few accounting classes in high school and decided that I wanted to study it further in college.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I was actually a distance runner in high school and not a very good one, but I still wanted to participate in track. I got in contact with Coach Boey, ended up walking on as a thrower and I fell in love.

What athletic or academic achievement are you most proud of?
Adding myself to OWU’s top-10 list for the hammer throw.

What did you do to put yourself in that position to achieve that goal/accomplishment?
Always striving to be the hardest worker at practice, buying in to what my coaches have to tell me, and most importantly surrounding myself with positive teammates who make me better and believe in me every step of the process.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are?
My first throwing coach, Ethan Rich, is the main reason I ever became a thrower. He gave me the confidence I needed to compete against some of the bigger, stronger athletes and to truly believe in myself that I can have success in this sport.

If you could visit another time when would it be and why?
Definitely the future, then I could see what trends are happening 50 years from now and then use them as my own ideas.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
One of my coaches once told me everything worth it in life is like a pie, that pie might taste like crap, or it might taste like a million bucks...but you will never know until you dig in.

If you were told you only had one week left to live, what would be on your bucket list?
Probably leave my phone at home, drain my bank account and fly around the world for a week.
