Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Carter Franklin of the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team.

Name:  Carter Franklin

Class year:  Senior

Major:  HHK: sports and exercise management and business administration

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
Ohio Wesleyan is a very prestigious academic school. I fell in love with the campus when I visited, and the coaching staff really went out of their way to make me feel wanted here. I could tell this was a special place.

How/Why did you choose your majors?
I have a passion for sports, and I knew coming into college my freshman year that I wanted to stay involved with sports after I was done playing. The sports and exercise management and business administration majors are awesome because many of the classes overlap, so I am able to double major without a significant increase in course workload.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I have played baseball my entire life and knew very early on that I wanted to compete at the next level. Playing at the collegiate level is something that not
everyone gets to do, so I feel blessed to be able to represent Ohio Wesleyan.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
All the time spent together as a team. Our spring trip to Florida is always a fun time traveling down south to face some good competition in warmer weather.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get to where you are?
Drew Saylor (Kansas City Royals hitting coordinator) and Adrian Abrahamowicz (head baseball coach at Oberlin College) are two coaches of mine who have been instrumental in my development not only as a baseball player, but as a person. I have known/worked with Drew for years and if there’s one thing he’s taught me, it’s that baseball isn’t forever. One day you are going to have to hang up the cleats and walk away from the game you’ve known and loved your whole life. Drew has taught me how to be a good player, but more importantly a good person. We would often talk more about life than baseball during our workout sessions. I have played for Adrian for the past 6 summers of my baseball career and he played a major role in the recruiting process for me in high school when I was trying to decide what college to attend.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to pursue a career in social media and sports working as a video content creator for a collegiate athletic department or professional sports team.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Live in the moment and take nothing for granted. Always be growing. Be flexible in an ever-changing environment. Want to be a part of the solution. Be positive.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with?
Drake, Derek Jeter, and Robert Downey Jr.

What is your ideal travel destination?
Anywhere warm with a beach.

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
Listen to music and surround myself with positive people.
