I had a lot to live up to every game after that day...

Meet the Bishops:  Get to know a little about Kennedy Sattler of the Ohio Wesleyan softball team.

Name:  Kennedy Sattler

Class Year:  Senior

Majors:  Pre-law, politics and government

Minor:  Psychology

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose OWU for its academic rigor, Wesleyan in Washington Program, and unique campus community. When I visited, I truly felt at home and could see myself spending four years at OWU.

How/Why did you choose your majors?
In high school I was involved in student government and Model UN. My senior year, I took a comparative politics class and realized that I had a passion for studying politics and how it affects the world. It seemed like that best fit when I got to OWU and I never looked back. I decided to add pre-law as a major my sophomore year because I wanted to go to law school after graduating from OWU and wanted to take some classes to help prepare me for those next steps.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I decided to play softball at OWU because I wasn’t quite ready to hang up my cleats after high school and couldn’t imagine having the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love and not take advantage of it.

What academic or athletic achievement are you most proud of?
The athletic accomplishment that actually sticks out the most was my first game as a Bishop. I went 3-for-3 that day, including the game-winning home run. I am especially proud of this moment because I was able to see the years of hard work pay off and it solidified my role on the team. Whenever I am in a rut or having a bad game, I always think back to this moment because it brings a smile to my face and reminds me why I play the game.

What did you do to put yourself in a position to achieve that accomplishment/goal?
I think what actually allowed me to be so successful during my first collegiate game was the constant adrenaline and nerves racing through my body. But this moment meant so much more than winning the game or getting my first collegiate home run. It meant that the 10+ years of softball leading up to that day paid off. It meant that I established a starting role as a freshman on the team. It meant that I had a lot to live up to every game after that day. But without my teammates and my family pushing me to be my best throughout that preseason and my life I wouldn’t have wanted to put in the extra work or go all-out every practice, which is what prepared me physically and mentally for that game.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
Before every game I have to have Ami Wright braid my hair.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend law school, hopefully in Washington D.C. (fingers crossed).

What is your favorite place to eat at in Delaware and what is your go-to dish?
Raising Canes. You can’t go wrong with the Box Combo.

What are your three favorite movies?
Miracle, National Treasure, and Mulan.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Definitely super speed. I would never run into a double play again.
