...I knew that I wanted to be able to have a closer relationship with my professors and be able to connect...

Name:  Lindsey Ashcraft

Class Year:  2024

Majors:  Pre-medicine/pre-dentistry, Biology

How/Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose OWU because of the small class sizes and the beautiful campus.  I knew that I wanted to be able to have a closer relationship with my professors and be able to connect and get to know people on campus.  I liked knowing that I would be able to walk to class and at least see one person I knew, if not more, and be able to say hi to them. I truly believe that when you say hi to someone, especially when they are having a bad day, that can really turn their day around. It is the small things.

How/why did you choose your major?
I have always had interest in the STEM area and decided to be a pre-medicine and biology major because I want to go to graduate school to become a physician assistant/associate.  After I had a major surgery my sophomore year of high school, I started to gravitate towards the medical field.

Which is your favorite event/competition?
My favorite event is the 200 medley relay.  I love that each swimmer is able to swim their best stroke and that it is the first event of the meet. Everyone has high energy and is ready to swim.  We all cheer and support one another in our leg of the relay as well.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
My favorite memory from being on the swim team is just the team cheering for everyone during swim meets (even people on the other team sometimes).  It just proves that we all support each other and want everyone to get better/improve times.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions?
In high school, the medley relay would always do the "Do It" chant/cheer where each grade (freshman, sophomore, etc.) would sing it and everyone would sing it together at the end.  We did this every meet before we swam the 200 medley relay.

How/why did you choose your event/position?
When I first started swimming, I picked up breaststroke naturally and so it has always been my favorite. Breaststroke is what I do the best in when it comes to meets as well.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
An accomplishment of mine would be receiving a 4.0 GPA for the spring semester last year while working, swimming, and still being very involved on campus.

If you could visit another time, when would it be and why?
I wish that I could visit ancient Rome because I would like to see the architecture, culture, art, history, etc.

What is your spirit animal and why?
My spirit animal is most likely a dog because I am typically optimistic and have been told that I am a loyal friend.
