Name:  Catherine Kent

Class year:  2027

Major:  Elementary education

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I knew that I wanted to attend a small school and OWU gave me the perfect mix of being able to play field hockey, attend a smaller school, and be a good distance from home.

Why did you choose your major?
I have always wanted to be a teacher, so my elementary education major was an easy choice.  I think several factors have played into that including how much I love working with kids, how much I looked up to my teachers as a kid, and my mom being a teacher.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I loved playing field hockey in high school but was unsure about playing in college.  However, when I met my coaches and watched how the team interacted, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it.  And it's been the best decision I've ever made.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud of my team's many academic and athletic accomplishments, but I am most proud of the team culture that we have created.  Every day, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride that I get to be a part of such an amazing group of girls.  My teammates are truly the most kind, hard-working, and loving people I have ever met, and to me, that is more important than any award.

What did you do to put yourself in position to achieve that?
I showed up every day with the goal of being the best teammate I could be.  This means working hard on the field, pushing myself in conditioning, carrying team equipment, working hard in the classroom, being there for my teammates, and much more.

What is your number one goal, personal or team, for this season?
My biggest goal, and the team's goal, is to be NCAC champions and attend the NCAA tournament.

Why do you like your position?
I love being a defender because I have gotten to learn from the best and be a part of a supportive and loving small group of fellow defenders.  I also love the challenge of facing my forward teammates and learning from them.

What is your dream job and why?
I want to be a kindergarten or first-grade teacher because I love kids that age because of their strong sense of curiosity and love of learning.  I also love reading and the idea of teaching reading, which is big in those grades.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite place to eat in Delaware is Mi Cerrito.  I always get a chicken burrito or chicken quesadilla with beans and rice.

What is your theme song and why?
My theme song is whatever song is currently stuck in my head because if you are with me you will hear it over and over.
