Name:  Trey Theobald

Class year:  2025

Majors:  Biochemistry, pre-medicine

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose Ohio Wesleyan because it felt like a place where I could spend four years becoming the best person I could be and preparing myself to achieve my goals.  I liked the idea of a small class size and the ability to interact with my professors more directly, and I also knew I could compete on the OWU track team.

Why did you choose your majors?
I chose my major because I knew going in that I wanted to be a doctor and that I was really interested in chemistry.  Biochemistry gave me the most exposure to the chemistry department while meeting all my prerequisites for applying to medical school.  I also think the name sounds pretty cool.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose to compete in sports while at OWU because I love competition, and the track & field team provided me with the ability to compete in both individual and team settings.  Athletics at Ohio Wesleyan also forces you to manage your time wisely to continue excelling in the classroom, which is a great skill to have moving forward.

What is your number one goal, personal or team, for this season?
This season I would I like to build upon the progress from the previous 3 years to put myself in a good position at the end of the year while also helping my teammates reach their goals.

What are your plans for after graduation?
After graduation, I will be applying to medical school and working as a scribe for Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates.

What were your thoughts after your first throw in the javelin at last spring's NCAA Division III championship meet broke the school record by nearly 14 feet and turned out to be the national runner-up performance?
My goal last spring was to become an All-American.  Coming into the meet, I knew that I would have to have a big PR to reach that goal. After the throw, when the number flashed on the board, I knew I had put myself in a good position to make the final.  I was proud that I was able to go into a high-pressure environment and perform at my best.

What is your favorite place that you have traveled to as an OWU student-athlete?
My favorite place that we traveled to was Myrtle Beach for the NCAA championship meet.  The weather was perfect and it was fun to be on the beach with everyone.  I also finished as runner-up in the number of plates finished at the post-meet seafood boil (shoutout Antonio).

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
Do it!  I have met so many amazing people as a member of an athletic team at OWU and developed skills that will help me down the road to be a better person.  Don't be afraid to come in with big goals and be willing to try new things.  I came in with big goals for running but became an All-American in javelin, an event that I hadn't even considered until I came to OWU.  Regardless of your goals, come in every day ready to work for them.

What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season at OWU is the spring because it is javelin season, and it is the culmination of the year, both in the classroom and athletically.
