DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's swimming and diving team hosted the 15th annual Corbiere-Merion Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Meek Center. The Battling Bishops scored 632 points and finished third in the six-team field that featured Davis & Elkins, Heidelberg, Wilmington, Hanover, and West Virginia Wesleyan. Davis & Elkins would win the event on the men's side with 877 points.
The highlights of the weekend were two broken records by the Bishops in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.
John Wion took part in both, putting up a time of 50.79 in the 100 back and leading off the 400 medley relay team that turned in a 3:29.28.
INDIVIDUALS
John Wion won the 100-yard backstroke and turned in top-five finishes in his two other individual events with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. He took the 100-yard backstroke with that aforementioned record-breaking time of 50.79 – setting both a new school record and a new pool record for the Meek Center – and turned in times of 1:54.47 in the 200 back and 21.73 in the 50 free.
Evan Lucas won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.59, also taking second in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:00.83 and fifth in the 100-yard individual medley with a 55.65.
Nathan Ambler recorded two second-place finishes and one third-place finish. He was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:44.99 and the 100-yard individual medley with a 54.70, and third in the 100-yard freestyle with a 48.10.
Ian Sander secured third place in the 100-yard individual medley and fifth place in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard breaststroke. His IM time was 54.74 and his breast times were 1:01.20 in the 100 and 2:12.88 in the 200.
Eric Sander recorded three top-five placements, taking third in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:00.64, fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:01.38, and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:01.90.
Henry Gaudet had one top-five finish, taking fifth in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.67.
Alex Tovtyn turned in one top-five finish in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing fifth with a time of 5:27.35.
RELAYS
The Battling Bishops' 400-yard medley relay team of

Ian Sander,
Evan Lucas,
Nathan Ambler set a new school record of 3:29.28, finishing third.
OWU won both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Wion, Sander, and
Henry Gaudet took part in both victories. Lucas was the fourth member of the 200 medley team that finished with a 1:35.43 while Ambler was part of the 200 free relay team that finished with a 1:27.39.
The Red and Black added two more third-place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. Wion, Lucas, Gaudet, and Ambler combined for a time of 3:11.90 in the 400 free relay. Lucas and Ambler were joined by both Sanders – Ian and Eric – in the 800 free relay, turning in a time of 7:19.08.
