GAMBIER, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's swimming & diving team took one last chance to put up some fast times on Saturday at the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational. The meet was not scored but it was a successful afternoon as multiple Battling Bishops turned in personal bests and even a few program records.
Most notably, the 200 yard medley relay team of
John Wion,
Ian Sander,
Evan Lucas, and
Henry Gaudet set a new program record with a time of 1:33.46. This beat out the previous time by 0.31 seconds.
Wion also made individual history, setting a new record in the 50 yard freestyle… twice. First, he swam a 21.05 as the leadoff of the 200 free relay, beating out the previous record by one one-hundredth of a second. He then dropped off another one-hundredth in the time trials at the end of the meet, swimming a 21.04.
The aforementioned 200 yard freestyle relay of Wion,
Elliott Montana,
Eric Sander, and
Ian Sander swam a 1:33.48 and finished second.
Tovtyn turned in two personal bests in the 100 yard individual medley and the 100 yard butterfly. He swam a 57.63 in the IM and a 57.84 in the fly. Tovtyn also finished 20th in the 50 yard freestyle at 22.59 – his fastest 50 free of the season.
Montana nabbed a personal best in the 100 yard individual medley, swimming a 1:09.94. He also finished 26th in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.97, and ninth in the 200 free at 2:12.37.
Wion swam a 50.51 in the 100 yard backstroke, good for fifth.
Ian Sander recorded a 59.18 in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing ninth. He also turned in a 54.00 flat in the 100 yard individual medley, finishing sixth.
Lucas Lau took 28th in the 50 yard freestyle with a 25.58, eighth in the 200 free at 2:06.84, and 28th in the 100 free at 57.02.
