GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's swimming & diving team competed at the NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships this past Wednesday through Saturday, hosted by Denison. The Battling Bishops tallied 424 points, finishing eighth in the conference.
DAY ONE
The Battling Bishops put up 104 points on day one, finding themselves in seventh place after the first round of relay finals.
MacKenzie Carter,
Maddie Hoyt,
Anna Lance, and
Anna Haines secured the first points of the meet for OWU in the 200 yard medley relay. The quartet took sixth with a time of 1:51.94.
Zoie Buck,
Maria Thibodeaux, Haines, and
Ellie Cady came up with the other 50 points in the 800 freestyle relay, turning in a time of 8:41.08 for eighth place.
DAY TWO
Ohio Wesleyan slipped into eighth place on day two despite adding 70 points, bringing their total to 174.
Anna Lance and
Maria Thibodeaux secured the first points on the day for the Red and Black, combining for nine in the 200 yard individual medley. Both earned spots in the c-final with Lance swimming a prelim time of 2:17.37 and Thibodeaux swimming a prelim time of 2:29.36. Lance finished third in the final heat for 21st place with a 2:16.47. Thibodeaux turned in a 2:30.87 for 26th overall and eighth in the heat.
MacKenzie Carter took nine points in the 50 yard freestyle, tying for 19th. She secured her spot in the c-final with a 25.33 in prelims before splitting the top spot in the final heat with a swimmer from John Carroll, both touching the wall at 25.17.
The remaining 52 points came courtesy of the Bishops' 400 yard medley relay team made up of Carter,
Maddie Hoyt, Lance, and
Ellie Cady. The four finished seventh with a time of 4:09.98.
DAY THREE
The Red and Black came away with 99 points on day three, remaining in eighth place with 273 total.
Anna Lance scored 10 points in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing 19th. She got a spot in the c-final with a 1:01.81 in prelims, ultimately moving up a spot to win the final heat with a 1:00.29 after being seeded second.
Ellie Cady recorded one point in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing 27th with a 2:09.33 after securing a spot in the c-final with a 2:08.68 in prelims.
The Bishops put up 18 points in the 100 yard breaststroke with
Maddie Hoyt,
Avery Hudak,
Maria Thibodeaux, and
Lauren James securing 22nd through 25th. Hoyt swam a 1:14.60 in the c-final, followed by Hudak at 1:20.28, Thibodeaux at 1:24.22, and James at 1:26.44.
MacKenzie Carter and
Frannie Rhine combined for 18 points in the 100 yard backstroke. Carter took 14th overall and 10 points after finishing fifth in the b-final with a 1:00.96. Rhine nabbed two points, finishing 26th and swimming a 1:11.41 in the c-final.
The remaining 52 points came in the 200 yard freestyle relay courtesy of a seventh place finish on a 1:42.86 from Lance, Cady,
Anna Haines, and Carter.
DAY FOUR
The Battling Bishops tacked on 151 points on day four, finishing the meet in eighth place with a total of 424.
Zoie Buck and
Lillian Borofsky started the day off with 12 points in the 1650 yard freestyle. Buck took 21st with a 20:07.39 for seven points. Borofksy swam a 22:06.88 for 23rd and five points.
Anna Lance,
Maddie Hoyt,
Bella Guzzetta, and
Avery Hudak recorded 34 points for the Red and Black in the 100 yard individual medley. Lance led the way with a 1:02.71 in prelims to secure a spot in the b-final where she finished second in the heat and secured 19 points with a 1:02.03. Hoyt, Guzzetta, and Hudak came in third, fourth, and fifth in the c-final, placing 22nd, 23rd, and 24th overall with respective times of 1:08.50, 1:10.21, and 1:12.16.
MacKenzie Carter, Buck, and
Frannie Rhine nabbed 27 points in the 200 yard backstroke. Carter turned in a prelim time of 2:17.20 for a spot in the b-final. She dropped two seconds in the finals heat to 2:15.61 for 14th overall and 16 points. Buck and Rhine came in at 2:27.68 and 2:37.33 in the c-final, good for 22nd and 23rd overall and 11 points together.
Anna Haines and
Ellie Cady secured three points in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming times of 58.66 and 58.68 in the c-final and finished 26th and 27th overall.
Hudak and
Maria Thibodeaux turned in 25 points together in the 200 yard breaststroke. The two got spots in the b-final with prelim times of 2:58.39 and 2:57.23 respectively. Hudak came in at 17th overall and earned 13 points with a 2:57.69 in finals while Thibodeaux came in at 18th overall and earned 12 points with a 3:00.48.
OWU's 400 yard freestyle relay of Lance, Cady, Haines, and Carter finished eighth with a time of 3:46.07, scoring 50 points.
